US Import Duty & Landed Cost Calculator
See the full shipment budget before you import.
Enter your verified duty rates and shipment costs. Estimate duties, date-specific MPF, applicable HMF and cost per unit in USD. This is not a live tariff lookup.
Your cost breakdown
Review the example inputs and confirm the assumptions, then calculate. Unknown eligibility or unsupported entries will show a message instead of a misleading total.
How the import budget is calculated
Customs value + base duty + each applicable additional tariff + MPF + HMF + international freight + insurance + brokerage + other costs = total landed cost. Divide by quantity for average cost per unit. All amounts are USD.
Base duty and every verified percentage layer are calculated separately on the same customs value, not on other taxes or shipping. This model is only suitable when that common base is correct for your goods. Invoice deductions are a convenience for documented international freight and insurance, not a determination of customs value.
Worked example: $10,000 ocean shipment
For 1,000 units entered October 17, 2026, assume a verified 5% base duty and a separately verified 10% tariff, applicable MPF and HMF, $1,100 freight, $100 insurance and $150 brokerage. Base duty is $500, the additional tariff is $1,000, MPF is $34.64 and HMF is $12.50. Duties and fees total $1,547.14. Landed cost is $12,897.14, or $12.90 per unit rounded. These sample rates are illustrative, not rates for any particular product.
A zero duty rate does not remove an applicable MPF minimum. A $5,000 formal entry with zero duty, no other costs and applicable MPF is $5,034.58 in FY2027 before any applicable HMF. An exemption must be confirmed; country of origin alone does not establish one.
Check eligibility before using the estimate
This tool covers one homogeneous shipment under an electronically filed US formal commercial entry. It does not choose an HTS code, look up live rates or decide whether additional tariffs can stack. Consult the official HTS and your broker for the product, origin and entry date. Keep records of the rates and exemptions you use.
Specific duties charged by weight or quantity, compound rates, content-only tariffs, AD/CVD, quotas, excise taxes, FTA qualification, informal entry and special categories are outside this model. If any applies, do not treat the result as a complete budget. Include independently known logistics charges once in other costs; do not use that field to hide an unknown tax.
MPF versions are limited to October 1, 2025–September 30, 2027. Dates outside that range stop calculation. HMF requires qualifying ocean cargo and port conditions; exemptions and special rules still matter. Air and land do not incur HMF here. Monetary inputs accept up to $1 billion each with two decimals, rates up to 1,000% with four decimals, and quantity up to 1 billion whole units.
Calculation sources and fee versions
Fee sources checked October 17, 2026. FY2027 MPF uses 0.3464%, with a $34.58 minimum and $670.86 maximum from October 1, 2026. FY2026 uses $33.58 and $651.50 with the same percentage. The applicable fee is clamped to its version’s minimum and maximum.

For allocating a shipment across products by value, units or weight, use Landed Cost per Unit. Then estimate holding costs with Inventory Carrying Cost. These are separate tasks; this page estimates US entry costs first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculator look up live US tariff rates?
No. Enter base and additional percentage rates you have verified for your goods, origin and entry date. Each layer must apply to the entire customs value and be applicable together. The calculator does not infer rates or stacking rules from an HTS code or country.
Which MPF version does the entry date select?
For supported electronically filed formal entries, October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026 uses 0.3464%, a $33.58 minimum and a $651.50 maximum. October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027 uses the same rate, a $34.58 minimum and a $670.86 maximum. Confirmed exemptions return zero MPF. Other dates or unknown eligibility stop calculation.
Does every ocean shipment pay HMF?
No. You must confirm that the cargo and port qualify and no exemption or special rule removes the fee. When confirmed applicable, this model uses 0.125% of the customs value. Air, land and confirmed nonapplicable ocean shipments have no HMF in the estimate.
How do I avoid counting freight and insurance twice?
Normally enter customs value excluding international freight and insurance, then enter those costs separately. If the value is an invoice amount already including either documented charge, select its inclusion checkbox. The calculator subtracts that charge before calculating duties, then includes it once in landed cost. Confirm that these deductions are valid and no other valuation adjustments apply.
Why can rounded unit cost differ from the shipment total?
Each duty and fee rounds half up to cents before summing. Average unit cost also rounds to cents, so multiplying that rounded average may differ from the total. The result also shows how many units receive each cent amount to reconcile exactly. This is a budget estimate, not a customs ruling or a model for unsupported specific duties, quotas or special entries.
